HD over Coax – HDCVI Technology – 10 Years in the Making

Dahua Technology is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of its patented High Definition Composite Video Interface (HDCVI) technology.

HDCVI was conceived in 2012 as an open, HD-over-coax solution for long-distance HD transmission and higher resolution compared to standard analog. With Dahua’s strong commitment to its research and development, the HDCVI portfolio reached a major milestone in 2015 when it released the industry’s first 4K fixed and 4K fisheye cameras, the highest resolution available for HD-over-coax at the time. Since then, Dahua has evolved its HDCVI portfolio bringing the latest technology offerings for video security without the complexity and added expense of converting to an IP system.

Thanks to HDCVI technology, high system design costs, technical challenges and other factors that impede companies’ from upgrading their security systems with ultra high definition cameras is no longer a problem.

Take Coax Further Than Before.

HDCVI Benefits:

  • Upgrade standard definition Analog to HD, using existing coax
  • Replace just cameras and DVR
  • Inexpensive upgrade path to high definition
  • Perfect for small to medium sized systems, 4-32 cameras
  • Eliminate the complexities of IP
  • As simple to install as Analog SD
  • Hybrid DVRs support IP and top competing technologies for flexible integration of various manufacturers
  • Live viewing with PTZ cameras without latency
  • Secure video transmission

The 5MP, 2.8mm Three-in-One (TiOC) eyeball camera (A52CJC2) controls light pollution with its Smart Dual Illumination mode. The camera intelligently switches between the IR mode when there is no motion in the scene and white-light mode when motion is detected. Ideal for applications where you don’t want the white-light LEDs on all night. Deter behavior with a warning siren and flashing red and blue lights.

*For analytic alerts, the TiOC must be paired with a Dahua XVR.

HDCVI Night Color

What if you could make the nighttime visible with full-color images in the dark so you could identify a person’s skin, jacket, hair or vehicle color? Although standard IR black and white images are often good enough, in some cases more details are required.

Dahua’s Night Color Technology incorporates a high-performance sensor to produce crisp, clear color images in low-light environments. This light-sensitive technology allows the camera to capture more available light and reproduce color images with superior detail and contrast.

Next generation HDCVI Night Color 2.0 cameras offer a larger lens aperture so that more than double the light can pass through for increased full-color visibility in low-light scenes.

Dahua’s all-in-one HDCVI security kits take the guesswork out of pairing compatible components. Additionally, we offer a variety of 4-CH, 8-CH and 16-CH configurations with 5MP or 8MP eyeball cameras to meet the requirements of different budgets and applications. Plus, the XVR’s hybrid capability allows users to slowly migrate to IP.

5MP 16:9 HDCVI
Get More of the Story

High Definition Composite Video Interface, or HDCVI, is an over-coaxial-cable analog HD video standard that allows long-distance HD transmission at a lower cost to meet the requirements for complex and large installations. In addition to long transmission distances, HDCVI products provide three major benefits to analog video users: wide protocol compatibility, Ultra HD video resolution, and intelligent analytics. With the 5MP 16:9 format, new details from your scene can provide the information you need to uncover the entire story.

Large analog video security systems are still widely used today throughout facilities such as financial and casino institutions. Many businesses are reluctant to make the expensive and disruptive decision to overhaul their entire system from analog to IP. One of the challenges is the need to replace miles of cabling, necessitating the disabling of much of the system, which would also take it out of compliance.

Thanks to Dahua’s HDCVI technology, HD-over-Coax systems enable customers to upgrade existing standard definition analog systems to HD easily and at a lower cost.

HDCVI Multi-sensor Technology

Outputs single stream comprised of multiple, stitched images, with correct aspect ratio.

  • Replaces multiple cameras
  • Low Total Cost of Ownership – Decreases installation time, cuts cost on additional cabling, saves time scrubbing through video for post forensic analysis

HDCVI Fisheye Technology

The use of fisheye panoramic cameras in security applications have gained popularity over the years due to the many advantageous qualities. One big plus being the wide range of view it offers operators for better situational awareness and decreased blind spots.

Dahua’s HDCVI Technology breathes new life into aging analog systems with high definition cameras, ultra low-light sensitivity and long distance transmission. All HDCVI cameras offer multi-format compatibility for a flexible installation with competing technologies (HDCVI, TVI, AHD and CVBS). The plug and play approach enables full HD video surveillance without the hassles of configuring a network.

HDCVI technology seamlessly integrates traditional analog surveillance systems with upgraded, high-quality HD video, making it the best choice to protect security investments.

HDCVI technology simultaneously transmits video, audio and data over a single coaxial cable. Dual-way data transmission allows the HDCVI camera to communicate with an HCVR to send control signals or to trigger alarms.

HDCVI technology guarantees real-time transmission over long distances without loss of video quality. HDCVI cameras provide the same resolution as most IP network camera systems using existing RG-59, RG-6, or CAT 6 UTP cabling.
